Extended Family
Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) is a student run club on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
The goal of this group is give the students of CMU a support network that encourages them to become the people God created them to be. Many of them have been going to church and attending Bible studies since they were children. They have been ‘lectured’ and ‘taught’ all their lives about what it means to walk by faith. CSF wants to take this knowledge to the next level - living it.
It is a very good thing to learn, but it does not stick unless we take the time to process what we learn. In a fast paced and loud world, CSF allows their students to slow down and reflect on what they have learned at church and from reading the Bible, along with all the knowledge they are gaining from their college classes or are experiencing in an ‘adult’ world. What they are finding is that Jesus’ fingerprints are everywhere, but they need to intentionally take time to look.
Two quotes that students have shared with us over the past few years have really affected how we direct this group.
“I used to think I knew how to swim when I was in the kiddie pool, but since I came to college I have realized I am drowning in the ocean.” - Graphic arts major
“I go to eight Bible studies a week, including church on Sunday. I don’t need another Bible study, I need to understand what I already know.” - Biology major
No matter the level of a student’s faith or knowledge, CSF gives these students a safe place to really think through their faith, their lives, and their future.
Western Colorado Christian Campus Ministries (WCCCM) is a supporting network of churches and individuals that are walking with the students of CSF to help them discover and live out their faith.
Our goal is to equip these students with whatever they need in order to understand what it means to be a Christian and share that with others. This may be physical help, such as car repair or groceries. This may be psychological help, such as a listening ear or a connection with someone with relevant life experiences. This may be spiritual help, such as for prayer or Christian guidance.
To meet these goals, we have created an Extended Family (EF) of people who care about these students and are willing to be available to meet their needs. The bigger this family is, the bigger our impact can be.
EF membership is simple and holds no commitments. We simply ask that you stay informed of what we are doing through our monthly updates, pray for these students and how God can use you, and jump in where the Lord commands. Also, about once a quarter we have an EF event so that they can meet the students. This helps EF members to know that what they are doing matters and for the students to give back to those that have supported them.
As we move forward, we are working on an Emergency Response (ER) team of those that we would be able to call for immediate needs. As we develop this, we will ask the EF members to consider be a part of this also, but (again) there is no commitment.
If you are interested in joining our Extended Family, please spend some time in prayer and then send us an email. We will put you on monthly EF update email list. Then, as you discover what is happening, decide where God is leading you to jump in.
Remember, there is no commitment beyond what you wish to give. We thank you and we pray God blesses your life in ways you could not imagine. Always listen for the heartbeat of Jesus and dance to that rhythm.
If you are interested in more information or are ready to sign up, send me an email at dave@wcccm.org and I will get you connected.
Thank you,
Dave
