CSF Club Constitution
The Constitution and Amendments of Christian Student Fellowship. (revised 10/21/21)
1.0.0 Name
The name of this club shall be Christian Student Fellowship at Colorado Mesa University. In shorthand terms, it will be referred to as CSF or CSF@CMU
2.0.0. Purpose
The organization will try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in loving and encouraging each other as well as the students, faculty, and staff of Colorado Mesa University and the community that we are a part of.
2.1.0 Mission statement
CSF is a Christian Club aiming to create a culture of peace on the campus of Colorado Mesa university, while focusing on helping students navigate college life through finding identity in self, others, and God.
3.0.0 Membership
All students from Colorado Mesa University from all walks of life who are interested in the life and person of Jesus Christ and how He pertains to college living are welcomed.
4.0.0 Leadership
4.1.0 Structure
The activities and goals of CSF shall be determined by a team assessment of the needs of the collective group, the community of Colorado Mesa University, and the global population. Decisions are based on a consensus of the leadership team. It should also be noted that all members of CSF have an active role in leadership activities.
4.2.0 Leadership team
The leadership team shall be composed of a minimum of Three (3) members, to fulfill the distinct requirements of the Club Advisory Board (CAB) at Colorado Mesa University. These positions include President, Vice-President, and CAB representative. Other members may be brought onto the leadership team as needed to fulfill its mission of encouraging and loving members of the club.
4.3.0 Duties and Responsibilities
4.3.1 General leadership requirements
Leadership as a whole is expected to be committed to leadership meetings, club meetings, weekly activities, and special activities and to uphold Christian standards of integrity which includes not complaining about each other or the club and keeping information pertaining to others confidential.
4.3.2 President (Mandatory)
The president shall
1) preside at leadership meetings and
2) promote the overall goals of CSF,
3) coordinate with the other Christian organizations
4) advertise and promote social functioning regular meetings.
4.3.3 Vice-President (Mandatory)
The vice-president shall
1) run leadership meetings in absence of the president
2) assist the president.
In the absence of a Secretary, the Vice president will take on the roles necessary as listed below.
4.3.4 Club Advisory Board Rep (Mandatory)
The CAB Rep shall
1) maintain accurate spending and income statements from all sources,
2) create a budget
3) present a financial report to members and group advisor at the end of each semester,
4) attend all monthly CAB and/ or ADG meetings,
5) represent CSF to the rest of the student body in an appropriate manner at CAB meetings
6) liaise with the president with other Christian organizations on campus and off to promote unity.
4.3.5 Secretary
The secretary shall
1) keep accurate record of all CSF meetings, both leadership and social, and
2) maintain necessary member files and contact information
3) file all paperwork necessary for activities and promotion on the CMU campus.
4.3.6 Worship leader
The worship leader will
1) coordinate with the president on the order and theme for a CSF regular meeting
2) organize a team to lead the worship in a CSF regular meeting.
4.3.7 Pastoral Leadership
The pastoral leadership is expected to
1) attend leadership meetings and
2) attend and oversee the teaching within CSF regular meetings
3) make himself/herself available for guidance and counseling of club members.
Pastoral leadership may not vote on decisions of the student leadership team; however he/she may offer pastoral advice on a decision and propose items to leadership meeting agendas.
Pastoral leaders will not be able to propose, vote, and contribute to topics of student monies or budget.
The pastor is required to let the president know the topic of the regular meeting five days prior to the meeting - this aides in advertisement of the meeting and subject matter.
4.4.0 Leadership expectations
4.4.1 Attendance
All leaders are expected to be at all CSF functions, but we realize this is not realistic so all leaders are expected to show a strong commitment to the life of CSF.
4.4.1.1 Expectations
Every leader must make at least 3 of the 4 regular CSF meetings and 3 of the 4 leadership meetings each month. They are also expected to attend special events and as many of the regular weekly activities and Bible studies as they can.
4.4.1.2 Absences
Sometimes life happens and a leader cannot meet the above obligations. In case of extra absences, the leader must inform the president in advance (the president must inform the vice- president) that they will miss a leadership meeting and arrange to meet with either the president or the pastoral leadership during the week to pray and catch up on anything missed. If they are missing a regular CSF meeting, they need to inform the president and commit to being at a least one fo the weekly activities.
4.4.1.3 Excessive Absences
If the leadership team feels that a person is missing excessively or is not committed to the life of the club, they may ask that person to step down from the leadership team.
4.5.0 Leadership selections
4.5.1. Selection of New Leaders
Each leader on the leadership team will mentor a student from the general membership of CSF through the year. That member may attend leadership meetings, but cannot vote. When the leader steps down (either from graduation, lack of time to fulfill the role, grades, or any other reason), the member that was being trained will step up and take their spot. They will then start mentoring another member of CSF.
4.5.1.1 Eligibility of Leaders
All members of CSF are eligible for leadership as long as they are a full time student at Colorado Mesa University with a GPA of 2.0 (as required by the university), willing to fulfill the requirements of leadership and confirmed by a 2/3rds vote of the leadership team.
4.5.2 Vacancies
4.5.2.1 Filling Vacancies
When a vacancy occurs on the CSF leadership team, the vacancy must be filled. The leadership team will nominate a member to fill that vacancy with a 2/3td vote to complete the process.
4.5.3 Removal
In the event that a member of the leadership team is not fulfilling his/her responsibilities, he/she may be asked to step down by a two-thirds vote of the remaining members.
5.0.0 Meetings
5.1.0 Regular meetings
Christian student fellowship shall hold regular meetings on Sunday nights on the Colorado Mesa University campus. Other social meetings will occur during the week as organized by the leadership team.
5.2.0 Leadership meetings
Leadership meetings shall be held on a weekly basis to plan club events, discuss issues that develop within the club, and pray for the members of CSF.
5.2.1 Meeting format
All leadership meetings shall be held in this format. The president starts the meeting with an opening word of prayer. Next, each leader checks in with how their week has been and any prayer requests they or members of the club have. Someone will be selected to pray for these needs. The president will then ask for any topics that need to be considered. These items will be discussed and voted on (if necessary). When the meeting is over, a closing word of prayer, and adjournment.
5.2.2 Quorum
A quorum will be 2/3rds of the leadership team. For a vote to pass it must be a majority of a quorum. This is the same for regular membership meetings.
5.3.0 Summer meetings
The leadership team shall meet during the summer in an “as-need” basis to evaluate the activities of the past year. It will also plan for the coming year/ semester and its activities deemed necessary. Regular meetings may be held in summer as pre-planned.
6.0.0 Constitution and Amendments
6.0.1 Authority
The CSF membership has the authority to amend the constitution and by-laws at any leadership meeting.
6.0.2 Proposed Amendments
The CSF leadership team or any member of CSF may propose amendments at any time.
6.0.3 Posting
The amendment must be posted in writing at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which it is to be voted on. At this time, the president shall be notified in writing of the amendment and on the following Sunday the amendment must be announced to the general membership of CSF.
6.0.4 Quorum
A quorum must be present to vote upon the amendment. it must be passed by two-thirds vote of those present. It shall be composed of one half of the average meeting attendance.
7.0.0 Budget
7.1.0 Introduction
The necessary funds to support the work and activities of CSF may be allocated by Christian Student Fellowship account at Colorado Mesa University, local church contributions, students funding and/ or individual contributions from people or groups. The pastoral leadership will not have any say in how the club spends the money in its CMU account.
7.2.0 Budget
The budget shall be compiled by the treasurer and student funding representative and reviewed by the leadership team as a whole in conjunction with the advisor. The pastoral leadership has no say in the formation of the budget whatsoever beyond advice.
7.3.0 Fundraising
Fundraising is limited to raising money for CSF programs including mission trips and community outreach. Christian Student Fellowship shall hold a minimum of two fundraising events per semester, as required by the Club Advisory Board for CAB allocations of student fees. The pastoral leadership may suggest fundraising methods and advise in their formation.
